So I herd u wanted to see a doll of Val?
…So the reason we’re so upset about the yellowing is because Jace is using the CAM male Vampire to make Valentine. (It’s his anniversary gift to me, sdfklsdflkshfklh) He’s got the colors moderately corrected, but it’s still really frustrating that it’s happened.
He told me tonight that he wanted me to post some wips now that Val’s finally past the 75% completion mark. Val still needs his burgundy streaks, a haircut, a little more embroidery to his jacket, and a few other special details. I
loveadore the repaint Jace did. (His hands aren’t in the picture because we’re trying to be as careful as possible about him yellowing any further. And no, he was yellowing before any new face-up was begun, so it’s not a chemical process initiated by our customization. I love her sparkly eyes…
See, this is a *good* custom. It doesn’t make me flinch to see an elusive Cupid like this. I saw a Rochelle in the MH tag that had like, glitter paint slathered all over her and a sloppy face-up, and it just makes me go WHY WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. People can buy the dolls and do whatever they want with them- it’s their money, and their doll, and tastes differ, and all that jazz- but I do admit it makes my heart sad to see terrible things done to a doll I am longing for. I guess everyone has to start somewhere, but man, it rubs salt in the wounds of those of us in scalper-ridden cities to see it all over tumblr. Thank god for the other people on tumblr, who help us unlucky ones find dolls. So much love for them.
Um, this isn’t a Cupid! It’s a Lagoona! And she is indeed really gorgeous. I love the little details like the sparkles added to her pink shoes. :)
For the record, we’re firm believers in “everybody’s gotta start somewhere” re: customs, though we do definitely recommend that people completely new to painting dolls try out some inexpensive source dolls first for the sake of their own wallets, lol (there’s a post about that in the works right now, actually).
The great thing about painting dolls is that so long as you take the proper steps in sealing them, you can always go back and change faceups as you improve! And even if you don’t seal your doll properly and stain the vinyl horrifically, you can paint over it using a paint like SEM that bonds to all types of plastics, vinyl included, and will give a lovely even color. She has horrible vision on land because there’s no film of water in front of her eyes, so she ends up with glasses on land, but not in water.
